William and Charles
This is William and Charles (as the siblings would call, Willie and Charlie) at Diocesan Boys School (DBS) in Hong Kong. This photo had to have been taken in the 1940's because the family fled the communists in 1949, first to Hong Kong, and then to Jesselton, North Borneo (present day Malaysia).
Diocesan Boys School is one of the oldest and prestigious schools in Hong Kong, established in 1869 to give boys a Christian education. William has fond memories of his time at DBS. It was there that he enjoyed a regimented lifestyle as a boarding student and developed his academic discipline, skills to work hard, and caring for one another.
Alfred and William, being the eldest, were sent to DBS. Charles was upset that he was not permitted to follow Alfred and William there. The following year, Charlotte and George relented and sent Charles to DBS.
